Essential Research Programmes are executed for essential public requirements. At presently two programmes are initiated under essential research programmes.
Road accidents are increasing day by day. Even though several reasons can be found out, negligence in implementation of proper traffic rules can be accounted for about half of the accidents. Another problem in urban areas is traffic stand stills due to increasing number of vehicles and unplanned journeys. REAP is an initiative to cut down these serious issues using effective implementation of electronic systems to predict and manage vehicular traffic for accident prevention and for enabling smooth traffic. January 2012 to January 2014 is taken as a long action period to carefully study the issues, design and develop various innovative technologies and solutions and to analyze the results at some selected locations. The target is to reduce road accidents by 60% and traffic blocks by 75%.
Food security is an essential thing for any nation to exist. Promoting agricultural initiatives are required for ensuring a secure supply of food. Crop protection, pest control and destruction are some of the steps essentially required to promote agriculture. But unfortunately pesticides and other crop protection and yield improvement methods are harming the living population and threatening the world we live in. BioEx programme is initiated to study the problems facing agricultural sector and to find out right solutions for crop protection, pest control etc through intelligent electronic systems.
More details of the above programmes will be published soon.
